Welcome to Wondrous Words Wednesday, an awesome meme for improving your vocabulary. Check out the links at Bermudaonion.net for more words to learn!
My entry this week comes from the fifth book in the Artemis Fowl series, The Lost Colony. I’m listening to it with my kids on the long drive to and from sports practice. As always, the humorous adventure story keeps me awake almost as well as my tea. Yay to the wily dwarf Mulch Diggums for introducing me to this new word:
The next room was cleaner and more salubrious than the bathroom he had just left.
salubrious \sə-‘lü-brē-əs\ adj. from the Latin salubris healthful; favorable or promoting health or well-being
I thought it simply meant more appealing, but I should have known better! I took Spanish and know that salud means “health”.
Word Nerd Workout
Share a salubrious place, or better yet, a salubrious activity that you enjoy.
My salubrious activity: I ran 3.5 miles this morning. Woo hoo! (I’ve been a busy mama with only 30 minutes to run for years, and I’m trying to break out of the 30 minutes/ 3 miles rut. Wish me luck.)
Now it’s your turn!
Thanks for getting nerdy with me today!
Julia
WOW just what I was searching for. Came here by searching for salubrious
Salubrius. I ate homemade salsa this weekend. Does that count? LOL
That definitely counts! Yum! I like mine with green apples in it.
I always think of salubrious as appealing, or not sordid rather than healthy.
I just made the salubrious choice to join a gym with a daycare so that I can bring my little lady with me and work out during the day while my husband is at work. It’s been great for my health and sanity!
Emily, I’m so glad that you are taking care of yourself. A little workout time is the perfect way to stay healthy- both physically and emotionally! Taking care of a baby is hard work. Keep it up!
Before I got sick, I was in a great habit of going to the gym every morning. I will be back soon. (Does that count?) 🙂
Hi Linda! I found your comment in my spam! I’m so glad you stopped by, and yes, your gym habit does count, and I’m sure you’ll get back there soon!
I wish I had run this morning. Instead, I caught up on sleep. My salubrious activity today will be drinking my wheat grass supplement, mixed in juice or water. Tomorrow, it will be Spin class. 🙂
My salubrious kitchen habits help stop cross-contamination. (My family says I’m neurotic about knives and cutting boards.)
A great healthful word, thanks! for sharing.

I thought the same thing you did about salubrious. I’m happy to know better.
I just had my annual physical and all reports indicate I lead a fairly salubrious lifestyle. I walk every day and try to eat healthy.
Excellent, Kathy! Glad to hear it.
I’m currently training for a marathon right now, so I’m incorporating lots of salubrious running into my week! When I was in Germany earlier this year, I went to a traditional bath house. The literature & signs within the spa focused on the many salubrious benefits of the thermal spring water!
Germany! I’m jealous! And good luck with the training! I don’t know how you fit that in!
