Wondrous Words Wednesday this week has a twist; I’m sharing some words from one of my favorite books, The Fellowship of the Ring, by J.R.R. Tolkien.
“I wish it need not have happened in my time,” said Frodo.
“So do I,” said Gandalf, “and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.”
What wonderful and wise words, from a wizard, of course.
Don’t forget to leave a comment with your favorite book from 2013- you could win a book or B &N gift card. See the Giveaway Announcement for details.
Have a great week, and use your time well.
Aloha,
Julia
Nice quote, Julia! Every year around this time, my husband insists that we watch the trilogy of movies again (we have the boxed set).
We do too, and my husband always suggests an LOTR marathon for New Year’s Eve! I’m so glad these quotes from the book made it into the movie. Have you seen The Hobbit part II yet? What do you and your husband think of those movies?
We haven’t seen the very latest one yet, but we did enjoy the first prequel. I think there’s a preference for the original LOTR trilogy, though. I felt like the scenery is very beautiful, but it wasn’t as adventure-filled as the other ones. Of course, I think that may be due to the fact that the LOTR is based on separate books, while the prequel movies are stretched out from The Hobbit.
Julia, great quotes! My son and I joke back and forth, “My precious . .. ” Just a silly family thing, but we know what we’re referring too.
bless you, Hester
Oh yes, Hester. We do the same thing. In our house, “my precious” = iPod. Blessings back to you.
Ohhh, what a wonderful twist on Wondrous Words and what a fabulous line from Gandalf. Wise wizard, indeed! Keep soaking up that sunshine and Aloha spirit!
